It’s hard to believe it’s been almost ten years since Alimentation first opened its deli and grocery counter on Rue du Page.
Originally, the idea was for it to become “La Buvette’s deli”, a sister project created by chef Nicolas Scheidt and Luis Alonso.
Fast forward a decade, and it has become the neighbourhood’s go-to spot, with locals and office workers constantly popping in
for oversized sandwiches, takeaway dishes from the deli counter or a few carefully chosen pantry staples before heading off to dinner with friends – the perfect aperitivo tucked under your arm.
But let’s talk about the deli counter.
The menu changes every single day depending on what’s in season and what has just arrived – and is conveniently posted on Instagram Stories every morning. The format stays the same though: one meat dish, one fish dish, one marinated raw fish, one or several vegetable fritters, plus a selection of vegetarian and vegan sides.
On any given day, you might find veal meatloaf with raisins, slow-cooked sea bass with saffron emulsion, salmon and avocado ceviche, roasted sweet potatoes with peanut sauce, aubergine shakshuka or pea, ricotta and zaatar fritters.
In short: everything is seriously, seriously good.
Price-wise, it’s surprisingly reasonable for the area. Expect to spend anywhere between €12 and €20 for a generously filled takeaway box – around €12 for a vegetarian option, and €15 to €20 if you’re going for meat or fish.
The sandwich selection also deserves a mention. They’re all made with outstanding bread from Fine Bakery, and include a few house classics like the Bánh Mì – a sandwich so popular that taking it off the menu would probably cause a neighbourhood revolt.
As for the grocery section, it’s the perfect place to stock up on top-quality everyday essentials, from St-Odile vinegar and oil-packed anchovies to crispy chili oil and coffee from Wide Awake. It’s also a great stop when you’re on your way to friends and need the perfect aperitivo: homemade hummus, natural wine or a great selection of alcohol-free drinks.
A place we genuinely love and wholeheartedly recommend – whether you live in the neighbourhood or not.
