Encré
Rue des Chartreux, 17
1000 - Bruxelles
rainbow : +3€
When it first opened, this specialty coffee bar felt like a true speakeasy. You had to venture deep into a clothing store, all the way to the back of a red shipping container where the clothes were hanging, pass through a tiny room that felt like a hall of mirrors, before finally stumbling upon a small, dimly lit café hidden at the very back of the shop.
Today, the clothes have been replaced by stools and the word “café” is clearly displayed on the storefront – but the place is still just as sharp, and its atmosphere just as singular. With a few pieces from Encré Atelier still available for sale, rotating tattoo artist residencies, and a small corner dedicated to ceramics and accessories centered around matcha and coffee, Encré remains truly one of a kind.
But first and foremost: the coffee. A custom batch created in collaboration with Boo Modern Coffee which is genuinely excellent and executed to perfection by the barista. And what really fuels the hype – beyond the absolutely wild scenography – is the rainbow latte (+€3). We won’t lie: we gave in. And we’re happy to report that it doesn’t affect the flavor of the coffee at all – but if you’re anything like us, it will definitely put a smile on your face.
While you’re at it, we also recommend the spicy hot chocolate, delicious and perfectly balanced, the white chocolate white matcha, or going all in and exploring the rest of the menu. Honestly, every single item hits.
